Why Depeche Mode & Cocteau Twins still Rock

So this is my first post.

Be patient with me.

I am disillusioned with pop music. So much so I have reverted backwards. All the way back to Circa 1993 or is it 94. A time when pop was pure and wonderous - especially synthpop. Hence the title. I had Violator, 4 Calendar Cafe with Milk and Kisses thrown in for good measure on my playlist for - oh about 3 to 4 days straight.

And IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER EVER TIME I PLAY IT.

So what does this say? Has the current pop palate become so unbearably and commercially and crappy that I am in a continuous replay loop for all eternity.......

Why not "Music for the masses" or "Kisses for Violane"? you ask? Well because I like the other albums I just mentioned BETTER! - DUH!

The music industry has become a total wasteland awash with crappy pop that should be burned and banished from our ears forever.

I swear if I have to hear how Jonas Brothers and Lil' Wayne are really "running it" right now I am going to hang myself with my own headphones.

So why DM & CT? Well DM's Violator is a no-brainer. Each and every song is classic. Poetic words and rhymes that well to quote one of my favorite songs on the album "Take you on a trip around the world and back, and you won't have to move you just sit still.... " The songs are beyond beautifully arranged and constructed. Track #9 "Blue Dress" is so delicate. You can feel the intimacy, as if you are a fly on the wall in the room with just the two of them as he urges her to wear this dress he loves to see her in.

I could go on and on about this album. "Clean" of course is the brutally honest song about drugs and all the emotions that go with that "and end to the tears and in between years nd troubles I've seen now that I'm clean".

(Sigh) When was the last time you heard this kind of openess from an artist? I know Lil'Wayne is talented but please don't try to elevate him to some type of Demigod status just because he pushed a million copies on a bunch of bored kids that have no idea what good music sounds like. And yes I love Hip-Hop.
So don't even go there.
If you want to hear good music in Hip-Hop right now go get Nas's latest album "Untitled". But since Lil'Waynes music has "crossed-over" into the pop album charts he gets no pass.

Have I mentioned how repetitive it has all become? I mean did anyone see the VMA's - what a waste of time and money. (YAWN) It sucked bad. The only decent performance was Kanye - and the man did not even use his form of expression he is know for - RAPPING!

But you don't have to take my word for it ....Check out what other people are saying

I am just talking about pop music. Glorious magical pop. Pop music that use to make you feel something- is that a oxymoron?

Magnificent pop acts like The Cocteau Twins. I know that technically this group goes under alternative/rock/dream pop etc. However you want to sub-label it is up to you. If it has a beat and it not country or heavy metal. I call it "Pop".

Sadly most people have not heard of this group. I myself had never heard of them until a faithful day in 94 when I was working and heard their music come across the speakers. The experience was nothing less than "ethereal" and I use this term lightly.

To truly appreciate what I am saying here if you are not familiar with this most wonderful of bands here is a sample of "Know Who You Are at Every Age"

Now let me say the song makes no audible sense, OK - you are not going to derive an actual message. But again I am all about the feeling. It feels like a wave of softness. Smooth whispers with soprano bliss. And that is what we all need more of in this world isn't it? Soprano whispers and bliss..... Don't take my word for it just go to Last.Fm or Amazon there are legions of fans that agree with me on the beauty of there music. AND NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE SAYING....

An that is just the first song. The whole album is just beautiful. Like walking in fields of flowers of jasmine and honeysuckle with the sun on your face. Yes I am dramatic. But with me it is all about feeling, emotions - "that's all there is nothing more than you can feel now".

So where does this leave us? Is there any hope for humanity that there will be a great reprieve and a return to the solid days of happy pop that made us all feel?

If you know of a worthy pop band out there someone on the lines of let's say "The Darkness", I believe in a thing called love - now that's a track worth a good mention for the new millenium, of course they are gone now disbanded into one hit wonder history.

Please I beg of you! LET ME KNOW!

And don't you dare post up Tokio Hotel - just don't do it..........................
